With winter break getting closer, teachers have to ready their classrooms for everyone’s leaving and return. Let’s take a look at what some of our teachers here at YCHS do.
Tracie Looney teaches Freshman PE, Health, and is the Track Coach and has been a teacher at YC for over 25 years. And every year she has to prepare the gym for winter break, as well as make sure she has everything ready for when students return.
Kayla Jones teaches freshman Math, Statistics and Calculus and has been a teacher at YC for 6 years. She prepares her room for break and return starting before Thanksgiving break.
Looney starts preparing for break by planning out what to teach and how to squeeze in the last of fitness testing before everyone leaves. Upon return she might either continue a unit or start a new one.
Jones prepares by backtracking and making a review week before finals. She then has students follow the study plan and get caught up with homework. When everyone returns she will either do another review week or start a new unit.
Both teachers have similar techniques as to how they prepare for winter break, one of those techniques being they let students know what will be expected when they return. This makes for students to physically and mentally prepare for class.
Even though one teacher may have been here longer than the other they both have adapted to work with their students and co-workers to be successful. In doing similar things with preparations it can be easier on students because they won’t have to worry about surprises with multiple classes after returning from a two-week winter break.
