There are a lot of Thanksgiving recipes around the world that people make to celebrate this time of year. Some are very unique and some are pretty common so here are some homemade recipes that are made by teachers at Yamhill Carlton High School.
Instructional Assistant Kaitlyn Clements has this homemade recipe that is about sourdough rolls. She uses this recipe every Thanksgiving or any special holiday. It is her husband’s grandma’s recipe and it was given to her about seven years ago
Her kids try to help her but there is a lot going on so usually she does it by herself.
“It’s soft. It isn’t crusty on the outside and overdone in the middle where you don’t have to break one off. It’s super soft and chewy but also a little crispy on the outside,” Clements said.
Clements said that their Thanksgiving gatherings are pretty large. They have probably over 40 people now because their family has grown and at least seventy-five percent of them request these rolls. Her favorite thing to do on Thanksgiving she said was to play games after dinner.
Another recipe that is used quite often is a recipe by English Teacher Cassie Gomez. She likes to make stuffing (right out of the box stuffing mix) which she says is actually pretty good. She said that it usually takes about 10 min and all you really have to do is put some water and butter on it.
“Its one of those things that I only have around the holidays. So for the rest of the year, even though it’s sold in the store, I typically don’t have it. So it kind of a treat type of thing.” said Gomez.
She has used this recipe since she was a kid so 10+ years and her favorite part of Thanksgiving is that she gets the whole week off, so she enjoys getting to spend time with family and just taking time to relax and lay low.
