“The Princess Bride” is a Fantasy, Adventure, Comedy and Romance film by William Goldman and was made in 1987. The film’s plot is as follows: a young woman named Princess Buttercup is selected to marry the prince, Prince Humperdinck. She doesn’t want to marry him because she has a true love who moved away and died 5 years earlier named Westley. Buttercup goes on a horse ride every day and gets kidnapped by 3 men, one a short but incredibly smart man, another who is a swordsman and a third who is a giant. These men wanted to start a war between two nations by killing the princess but Westley, dressed in all black to conceal his identity, saves her by going through 3 battles of strength and wills.
In my opinion the film is very well made. It conveys emotion and humor in a way that very few films have been able to do. The film is funny without taking over the entire film and becoming boring, and it goes against your expectations without being random. One moment of this is the film where Westley reveals his identity to Buttercup by rolling down the hill screaming “As you wish!”
I would recommend this film to anyone who likes movies that are comedic but still take themselves seriously. This film is very enjoyable to watch. If you are interested in watching it, it’s definitely worth it.
One of my favorite scenes from the movie is the fight on top of the rolling hills between The Man in Black(Westley) and Inigo Montoya, the heartfelt talk along with the swordsman-like fight is a scene that holds up today as one of the best fight scenes.
In conclusion, the film is very comedic but somehow stays serious throughout the duration of the film, it still holds up today and is a lot of fun to watch, the film is very easy to follow and I would recommend it to anyone who likes films like these.
