With the new leadership advisor, I’m sure that some of you are curious about what’s going to stay the same and what’s going to change. Hopefully this article can help answer some of those questions.
We started by interviewing ASB president Madelynn Tuning,
“For the rest of the school year our biggest goal is that the student body and the leadership class is more connected, more assemblies that the student body wants, better spirit week….”-Tuning
I think that these are changes that the entire student body can get behind. But with all this talk about assemblies, what’s the next big one going to be?
“It sounds like our big one coming up is our canned food drive and it sounds like the prizes are pretty cool. We’ve talked about a moonshot and if you get the shot then you get all the money in this jar, and for each missed shot a dollar gets added to the jar.”-Tuning
With homecoming week behind us, I’m sure that some of us are wondering when our next spirit week will be.
“Our next spirit week, we are doing one in November, our plan is to have one spirit week per one or two months and we have a group of people that are working on that.”-Tuning
Leadership teacher Matt Opitz is the new leadership teacher this year, we asked how things have changed with him in charge.
“It’s very much more as a group more student led, he does a really good job of just sitting in the back of the classroom and listening to the plans instead of telling us what to do.”-Tuning
We also interviewed Mr Opitz and asked him the same question.
“More student input”-Opitz
If some of you are asking yourselves ‘what is leadership?’
“Leadership is… it’s not just a class but it’s a lifestyle, it’s working on establishing leaders in the school that are welcoming to everybody that are warm to everybody and teaching them what the characteristics of a leader are.”-Opitz
“Leadership is a class where the atmosphere is a pleasant one, more community driven close to one another.”-Tuning
When asked what they were most excited about for the future of leadership they had this to say.
“I’m really excited just to see this next generation of students because there are some big shoes to fill and I honestly think they are going to do a really good job.”-Tuning
“Excited to see how far we can take it stepping outside of the box, how far we can push the envelope.” -Opitz
