After 11 months it’s finally December and it’s time for Santa to come to town. The air is cold and the snow is falling. Your front yard is covered in snow, and there’s only one thing to do. Make the perfect snowman to impress your family and friends, maybe even Santa.
There are so many things you can do with snow, from snowball fights to sledding down a steep hill. However there’s one activity that takes the cake, building a snowman. Step one, finding the perfect spot. Your snowman needs to be seen so finding the perfect spot is necessary. After finding that perfect spot you need the perfect snow. Moist to wet snow is the best snow for making snowmen according to Jordy Hendrikx, a snow scientist at Montana State University.
Snowmen making takes time and effort, you need that right mindset to take on the challenge. You need to be in that jolly mood to give the jolly effect to your snowman. You need to be willing to try again over and over, snows unpredictable it might not do exactly what you want on the first try. You can’t give up on your snowman, he’s trying just like you.
Once you’ve picked out the perfect spot, found that perfect snow, and have officially gotten into a jolly mood, it’s time to start rolling. For the first piece you need a large snowball with a flat bottom and a flat top so it can sit steady and hold the next piece. The best way to form a large snowball is to roll it across the ground, while packing it tightly as you go. Roll in all directions, make sure your snowball is a ball. Once it’s big enough to place it in your perfect spot, pack some extra snow around the base to make sure it’s secure.
For the middle piece also known as the torso, this needs to be slightly smaller than the base. This piece you will have to actually lift onto your base instead of rolling it into place. Repeat the same process as before but make it snowball slightly smaller. Once you’ve gotten the perfect size, place your snowmans torso in the base’s center so your snowman is standing up nice and straight.
Now you’ve gotten the body done, it’s time for the head. To create the head, repeat the process from the last two pieces, but make it even smaller this time. You may be able to create the head in your hands depending on how big you want it. Once you’re happy with your snowmans head shape, place it on its torso and pack some extra snow around it to secure it, you don’t want the wind to decapitate your snowman.
It’s now time to bring your snowman to life and give it its own personality. When picking out your snowmans outfit be mindful, if you were a snowman would you want an ugly outfit? Before you go onto dressing your snowman you need to give it a face. You decide if you want to use the classic carrot and rocks for the face or if you want to get real fancy and use toy eyes and other things. Once your snowman is smiling, it’s time for some fashion, a nice fashionable scarf is the way to go. Maybe even a top hat for your perfect snowman. Add your own creative twists to your snowman. Be proud of your hard work, and compliment your snowman. Remember while doing Christmas activities, from decorating the perfect tree to making the perfect snowman, don’t forget to have fun.
