From Sweden to France, from America to Brazil, here are five unique cookies to make this Christmas.
Sequilhos come from northeast Brazil and were introduced by padre Cicerone. These are one of Brazil’s most popular cookies.
Sequilhos are very soft, delicate and melt in your mouth. They are commonly eaten with coffee or tea because of their sweet buttery flavor, and they can also be paired with fruit or sorbet.
The common ingredients used for this dessert are: cornstarch, salt, butter, and condensed milk. Another name for Sequilhos is “Biscoitos de Maizena” because Maizena is a popular cornstarch brand in Brazil.
This next cookie’s origins are unknown, but the New York Style cookie is believed to come from immigrants that settled in Manhattan in the 1900s.
New York style cookies are rich and flavorful. What makes them different from a normal cookie is that they have a crispy exterior with a gooey inside, and they are much larger than normal cookies.
These ingredients can vary depending on what kind you want to make, but here are the most common ones. Butter, brown sugar, vanilla, salt, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, nutmeg, flour, and chocolate chips.
A much simpler cookie to make are Lace cookies. These were created in France for Queen Anne de Bretagne in the 17th century.
These have a thin and crispy texture, with the taste of sweet brown butter and caramel. Most of the time, they are served with a spread of Nutella on them.
The ingredients used for this cookie are: almond flour, butter, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract.
These green cookies were Inspired from the movie “The Grinch” and are called Grinch cookies.
They have a soft coating of powdered sugar on the outside and have a light minty flavor. On top of them is a single red heart shaped sprinkle.
These flavors bring out the holidays with: cake mix, peppermint extract, vanilla, butter, and eggs. To give it that Grinch look, green gel food coloring is used in the dough.
This last cookie originated in 19th century Sweden, they are called “Hallongrotta” which translates to “raspberry cave”. Here in America they are also known as thumbprint cookies.
There are a variety of ways to make this cookie, the original is made with raspberries but another way you can make it is with hazelnuts. By using hazelnuts it will give it a much richer chocolate flavor.
To make the Hazelnut chocolate version of this cookie you will need: Hazelnuts, coca powder, chocolate chips, brown sugar, vanilla, butter, milk, eggs, baking soda, and salt.
