With the winter in season and the heat of summer is out, YCHS has become a place where students and teachers are no longer wearing their summer clothes, and are instead, jumping into their winter ones.
This season is known to be one of the hardest seasons for those that have multiple tasks such as sports and Christmas shopping, work and the Christmas break coming up. And many other things that may have an affect on the mind or on the body.
Winter is the most common time when people get seasonal depression and feel like there’s no escape from reality and that things are just going to get worse.
But to prevent this from happening this season or to help in any way, these are a few tips that may help you or a friend overcome (SAD) also known as (Seasonal Affective disorder.)
To maintain a good mental health this winter, Brownhealth.org said that you need to maintain good exercise and get outside in the sunlight and “keep up healthy eating and sleeping habits.”
“Making sure to have a good support system and stay connected to family and friends especially those that are far away. Still going to any appointments that take place during the wintertime is really important.”
Other sources suggest to “Find a good routine, like when you first wake up in the morning, plan out your day and have tasks and goals set for yourself to keep the mind at ease.”
Some good ways to do that as stated by Firstmind.com, is “spend time outside, play in the snow, go for a run/walk.” Find a new hobby that you like a lot but haven’t done it in a while.
Those are some common ways to keep the physical part of yourself in shape, and some good ways to keep your mental part of
yourself moving. You could also join local indoor sports, volunteer, enjoy seasonal movies, call a friend, write in a journal, embrace positivity, or try to join a cook/book
club.
