As the fall sports season comes to an end, athletes are met with an important choice to make. As the mat room comes to life so does the wrestling season. Coming off of the last season with a large group of state qualifiers.
With empty wrestling shoes waiting to be filled, some wrestlers have an opportunity to shoot for state, but one state placer has come back to coach and help the next generation of YCHS wrestlers.
Cayden Hill is joining the coaching staff “To give back to the community.” And with his little brother also coming onto the team this year it only seems appropriate.
With most of last year’s wrestlers stating last year’s season went well, with the amount of district placers and state qualifiers the team is excited to kick off this fresh season.
This fresh season has some wrestlers hopeful for what’s to come, Liam Hynes stated “the state placers of last year deserved it, they worked hard for it, I hope to be one this year”.
Along with the new season comes new wrestlers and one of the team captains Annie Featherston said, “if we get more girl wrestlers we’d be able to go to our own duals, and we’d have more state qualifiers.”
One of the other team captains, Kalob Dallas said, “under the right circumstances we could have three champions, maybe four” along with expressing his excitement for the season”.
When asked about the coaching staff, specifically the boys coaching staff, the wrestlers gave overall good reviews consisting of how much they like the coaches.
Dallas said, “I have a lot of confidence in my coaching staff, I think Nonamaker is one of the best coaches I’ve ever had,” along with that comment multiple other wrestlers made similar statements.
The first real wrestling meet will be at Rainier High School for the Kelly Bledsoe on the 7th of December.
