Usually on a Friday night in a small town like Yamhill the football field is booming with life but for one week that was not the case. For some reason the school was void of all varsity football players.
The distance of the game, roughly a nine hour drive, started raising some questions in the community as to why the game would be booked so far away.
The head coach of the Tigers, Brad Mckechnie Stated “we felt we needed a game for a bye week” instead of not having a game.
But some speculation from outside of the team says that it was a way to keep the football team ready for anything from travel distance to the weather on the field.
Multiple of the football players were left irritated with the weather with one of the linemen Deegan Tuning saying, “it was very windy and dusty but it was a fun night” but overall most of the players agreed that it was a fun game.
Tyler Pond, the starting running back, stated, “it was a good team win, but not a blowout like we wanted” leaving some of the football players hungry for the next game.
Most of the players along with Pond made comments on how Nyssa played a different game unlike the average football game, while others said that at the end of the night it was just another football game
Pond also said, “they played tough and they all flew to the ball” as well as “ their QB was hurt which was a shock to us, we expected them to be better at passing”.
On top of that before the game everyone wasn’t fully sure what to expect but after a short first quarter the Tigers started to buck up and dominate on defense beating Nyssa by 8-0.
So far the Tigers have only lost one game which was to Santiam Christian and have a pretty strong chance of pulling through into the playoffs, although after Valley Catholic they are met with three powerhouse schools.
