The month of October holds significance to many cultures around the world, the celebration of the 31st being the most popular. Halloween is a holiday that is recognized around the world and has only increased in popularity. It is a festivity that anyone can enjoy.
While the tradition continues to grow, the holiday spirit can be seen within the halls at Yamhill Carlton High School. Decorations on the walls, boards and doorways spread throughout the school. Not only is the district ready for the celebration of Halloween, students individually are getting ready as well.
Sophomore Deegan Tuning, reveals his plans for this upcoming Halloween. As a tradition to dress up, Tuning, his mother and sister will be dressed as characters from the movie Frozen. The family typically trick-or-treats, starting around five and ending around eight.
“I always hit up Carlton Corners because they give out those full size candy bars,” said Tuning. As the newest neighborhood within Carlton known as ‘the Carlton Crest’ is where Tuning usually sticks close to.
“It’s just easy, and I don’t have to worry about traveling,” said Tuning, he prefers Carlton over Yamhill simply due to the distance from his house and the crest.
Along with Tuning, junior Louie Etta prefers Yamhill over Carlton for the same reason. Etta mentions how his planning isn’t the best, referring to the fact that he still isn’t sure what he will go as for Halloween.
“I still haven’t thought about what I’m going to be yet,” said Etta, he mentions that he usually never knows what he’s going to be until the last minute. “It might be a little surprising,” said Etta, the uncertainty of choosing what to be for Halloween is a struggle for most teens.
Alike Tuning, Etta will be trick-or-treating with his family. With Tuning’s similar time frames as well, Etta plans on collecting a bag full of candy from around six to eight on the night of the 31st. Both are excited and ready to fulfill their sweet tooths and to get as much candy as possible.
