Many students know our student body president Maddy Tuning. Tuning likes being student body president a lot because she gets to work with YC’s leadership, but also likes helping being that role model for the rest of the school.
The biggest example with what she’s been doing was when she helped with homecoming. Tuning says she’s more there to help everyone get organized and to help where it’s needed. But she also helps make some bigger decisions in the program as far as going to conferences and what the rest of leadership are doing at conferences.
When asked what her favorite part about being student body president was she seemed unsure at first. “I don’t know if I have a favorite part about being ASB President,” said Tuning.
After some thought she said in leadership in general her favorite part is the leadership conference. She was on the state council and so she’s got to be on both sides where she’s on stage but also listening to what everyone’s got to say. But she also likes the spirit part. “I feel like our ASB this year is really close,” Tuning said.
When asked why she started leadership, she explained how growing up it was her dad’s big thing was to always lead by example, and so it started in softball for her and then continuing and finding that interest in leadership became a passion of hers.
Tuning plays soccer right now and is a team captain but she also plays softball year round on a club team. She spends a lot of time with family and traveling for softball. She likes to read and she spends a lot of time reading too. She also spends some time with her Friends.
Her daily routine includes waking up, hygiene things, getting dressed, eating breakfast, going to all seven of her classes, for lunch she either goes to T&E or she goes to the coffee shop with senior Evy Wright, then she goes to soccer practice and sometimes softball practice, then off she goes to her home and she does homework and watches movies to end her days off.
With two sports and leadership when asked how she manages her time with having two sports and leadership she says, “It’s definitely a lot with two sports at the same time and then leadership, but I like to find the balance in one.” Tuning continued to explain that when she’s done with one thing she can transition through. So when she’s done with soccer practice and done with soccer for the day then it’s her time to work on leadership or homework.
“But it’s definitely hard, I get caught up in trying to do one
thing for the entire day but just trying to find the balance,” Tuning said. Tuning absolutely hates the cold. She likes to say she’s allergic to snow. “So summertime is definitely my favorite season.”
She plans to play softball in college and is planning to major in applied biology. Then go to grad school for education or physical therapy. She doesn’t know where she wants to go to college yet but she has an official visit with Embry Riddle with the softball team so if that goes well then that’s where she will be.
